History of Chess
Chess has a very storied, and sometimes, mysterious history. The earliest version of chess seems to have come from India in the 7th Century. It is still unkown whether chess existed before the 7th century. From India, chess spread to Purisa. Then after the Arab invasion of Persia, the Muslim world took up chess. From there, chess spread to southern Europe. Around this time, somewhere during the 15th century, the moves each piece could make changed.
Chess first made an appearance in the United States in 1641, in a book called "Dutch New York" by Esther Singleton. Then in 1786, the first of many chess writings in America was published: "The Morals of Chess" by Benjamin Franklin. In 1843, the first American chess tournament was held in New York.
